Chimney milling

Chimney milling consists of increasing the space inside the chimney flue, where the flue gas passes. It's a less complicated alternative to a construction of a new chimney – pulling down an old chimney is a big encroachment on the building, and construction of a new chimney in a different location brings about a loss of the inside space. We would be happy to perform the chimney milling in a way you don't lose the comfort of your home.

When is it necessary to mill the chimney?

  • when you need to increase the diameter inside of the chimney
  • when you want to improve the drag
  • when you want to add an appliance with an output bigger than allowed with the present chimney
  • when the chimney is not tight and it is necessary to line it in order to reach the dimensions of the present chimney

Technical conditions required for milling:

  • The chimney flue has to be clear in the whole working range – if you are interested, we can come for a FREE check-up before the milling.
  • The chimney must be accessible from the roof.
  • All the rooms through which the chimney flue passes must be accessible during the whole process.
  • The maximum angle of the chimney flue must be 15°, in the case of bigger angle, it is necessary to drill an access to the site, performed by our company.
  • The customer takes into account the fact that the work may cause dust in the building, and therefore is asked to take appropriate measures.
  • In some cases, it is necessary to drill a small access in the lower part of the chimney to take out the milled masonry and to enable manipulation during milling.
  • Before milling, it is necessary to check the chimney coating, particularly in the roof and wood ceilings.
  • In the case of a stand-alone chimney, it is necessary to take into account structural analysis performed at the check-up.

Other technical conditions:

  • It is generally not possible to mill ceramics, reinforced concrete and asbestos.
  • Maximum amount milled is 1/3 of the chimney wall.
  • A milled chimney cannot be used without appropriate lining.
